A Tribute to Heritage and Legacy

Renowned sculptor Sir Pieter Nootenboom, known for his timeless works celebrating Philippine culture, has completed exquisite busts of Dr. José P. Rizal, the Philippines’ national hero, and Josephine Bracken, his devoted companion.

Lovingly documented by Lady Merle Nootenboom, this special project seeks to preserve and share the legacy of Rizal and Josephine by placing their likenesses in Philippine embassies, consulates, and cultural institutions worldwide.

Beyond its artistic significance, the initiative embodies the universal values of love, sacrifice, and patriotism, keeping alive the spirit of Rizalism across generations.

A Historic First for the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong

The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, through its Sentro Rizal Room, will be the first in the world to receive this historic pair of busts.

This momentous donation is made possible through the generosity of Sir Yongsoo Samuel Cho, KCR, Area Commander of the Knights of Rizal in Korea and Chairman of HQ Company Special Energy Philippines Inc., under IEK HQ Philippines Holdings Inc.

Sir Yongsoo’s sponsorship reflects his steadfast commitment to strengthening cultural bonds between Korea and the Philippines—a testament to his belief that shared respect for history, art, and heroism can unite nations.

Honoring Rizal’s Ideals Across Borders

The official presentation of the Rizal and Josephine Bracken busts is scheduled for early November 2025, marking a new milestone in the global promotion of Rizalian ideals—truth, justice, and devotion to one’s nation.

Dr. José Rizal’s enduring influence as a visionary reformist and advocate of freedom continues to inspire generations. His relationship with Josephine Bracken, an Irish woman who shared his ideals and courage, remains a timeless symbol of the union between East and West in the pursuit of liberty and human dignity.

Preserving Cultural Identity and Inspiration

The installation of the Rizal and Bracken busts at the Sentro Rizal Room in Hong Kong reinforces the mission of Sentro Rizal and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to promote Filipino heritage abroad.

As symbols of unity and remembrance, these works remind Filipinos and friends of the Philippines that the spirit of Rizal endures wherever there is love for freedom, learning, and humanity. Through efforts like this, IEK HQ Philippines Holdings Inc. continues to uphold cultural diplomacy and national pride, bridging art, history, and shared ideals across nations.
